Our final goal is to realize a program to compute the A-polynomial of knots in S3.
For now, you can find here an pplet to compute the trace of a word in terms of the traces of the generators of length at most three..
In fact only the elementary formula tab+tab-1=tatb is used here.
USE
Everything is slightly obivious for those familiar to the field: you choose the generator of your group (one letter per generator then enter your word with or without circumflexes for exponents. Pressing RETURN or the button will trigger the computation... it thinks... then comes back with the result.
The latter is displayed in two fashions: either with the built in displayer which displays exponents and indices pretty or as a text which you can copy and paste. If you would like to have a bit more details about what's happening, try to open the Java console (under Tools or Windows in some browsers, sometimes also on the standard console), this is were all translations are displayed.
Note that this is still the version 0. The applet has not yet been translated and a major, multi-threaded, dictionnary like applet and application is under the factory. It will use only the named formula and not the ones from Gonzalèz-Acuña and Montesinos-Amilibia.
