9. Session: December 22nd
Presentations:
Erroneous examples: Find errors in proofs
( Session 7 ) --- Postponed
Sum rule for limits: different proofs
( Session 8 )
Exercises:
- Joint problem space: Compare all four approaches of last week's proof of the
sum rule for limits. Generate a joint problem space. (**)
- Review: Select one of the following LeActiveMath chapters (in a language
of your choice), read it thoroughly and write a review:
- Functions and continuity
- Difference quotients and derivatives
- Derivation rules
Did you find any errors? What did you like? What did you dislike? Is
there anything incomprehensive and needs improvement? What kind of
improvements do you suggest in general? And in particular? Are there
any pictures missing? Where do you think an applet would be reasonable?
Are more examples necessary? Would real-world examples help?
Discuss in your group. Although this is a one star exercise, delivery
is due on January 12th. (*)
Supplementary exercises:
- Since nobody did it so far:
Sum rule for limits: different proofs ( Session 8 )
Who wants to present one of the different ways to do the proof should
contact Michael Dietrich for coordination. (*)
- As result from our experiment today:
Construct yourself a problem and its erroneous solution (a proof
problem from analysis, but not necessarily a limit problem). Prepare
a presentation in which you explain the principle solution idea
(solution path) realized in your erroneous solution and what actually
went wrong. (*)
- The Exercise Erroneous examples: Find errors in proofs ( Session 7 )
which I postponed in order to enable first our experiment today is
open again!
When you decide for this exercise, however, the focus of your
presentation should be on its second part:
``Record your experience with the prototype. What did you like? What
is not good? Make suggestions for improvement.'' (**)
