ActiveMath is a rich web-based learning environment for mathematics
that integrates several tools such as a function plotter, computer
algebra systems for exploratory learning, a semantic search, notes,
and the interactive concept map tool. Those external interactions can
be fed back into the system, so that students do not have to leave
ActiveMath. A clearly structured layout and
intelligent support makes the system usable.
|
A student visits Activemath and logs in with his own profile. Based on
the system's competence assessment the student is presented with
theoretical and interactive material. A student has great freedom in
the way he or she learns. Several tools are available to the student
whilst reading and making exercises, e.g., a Computer Algebra System,
a Concept Map Tool and a Plotting Tool. Students can use these tools
where necessary.
|
ActiveMath permanently records and assesses the
performance of a student in the exercises and and the result can be
inspected by the learner. The student can ask for more information by
clicking on mathematical terms or on definitions and by making use of
the semantic search facility.
