In previous classroom usages ActiveMath' indication of the learner's
mastery proved to be most useful and motivating and helped the learner
to monitor his/her progress and plan further learning based on the
information which concepts need remediation.
The fact that ActiveMath' bowser-presentation of mathematical formulae
is excellent and that screen- and print-versions can be used
alternatively was positively noticed by teachers, tutors and students.
Currently, a pedagogical team is investigating and documenting best
practice cases for reuse in European schools.
The indication of mastery by coloured bullets in the table of contents
is powered by a student model in the background. This student model is
fully inspectable by the learner and provides reasons for its beliefs
so that the learner can assess and reflect about her learning and is
supported for self-regulated learning.
If desired, students or teachers can assemble courses from existing
material, include dynamic items that are instantiated at use time and
add notes to the items.
